Remembering Ray Wirth

by Wade Nomura

Being the “New Kid” on the DG block, I had a short opportunity to meet PDG Ray Wirth and spend time with him and his wife Rosie. Ray was a man of few words, but could make his point quickly, and had a great sense of humor. This mixture of traits made him very unique, and I have never met anyone that could keep you captivated with what they were saying. His wife Rosie is very sincere and warm, and Roxanne and I spent an entire evening at a Rotary function (where else!) captivated by the Wirth’s telling us stories of the Rotary “Good Old Days” and the PDGs of his time (sorry, but I am sworn to secrecy).I attended Ray’s Memorial Service and enjoyed learning more about this man, his family, friends, and his Rotary history. Rotary benefitted greatly from Ray and his years of service.

With the recent passing of four PGDs and great Rotarians, I plan on spending as much time with the other PDGs as I can. They have so much to share and are our greatest resources for information. They are all very approachable and would all love to share time talking Rotary. Take the time to meet and greet these Rotarians, and I will be happy to introduce you to them the next time we get together.
